Words: 1,030 || Tagged: Nika VOLKOLV || Status: Complete Large paws moved quietly through the high Pines and Evergreens of the woods. Birds flittered from branch to branch high above me, calling out sweet melodies to one another. I could hear rabbits off to my right, munching on lush ferns. Deer started and loped away at the sight of me. There was a small predatory urge from my wolf to go chasing after that deer but human logic took over, the surprise was gone and so was the deer besides the fact we were on our way to go somewhere. The day was hot and humid, causing my tongue to lull from opened jaws. Very light golden eyes flickered over the scenery, I had no doubt that there would be no game that would come and try their luck with me, but I was more of just taking in what surrounded me. I loved it up here, high in the mountains. There was no sound of cars, no booming clubs, and no people. It was just me out here. Though of course Truth sometimes joined me up here, but he was the kind of company I liked. I always enjoyed having him around.
The hot sun beat down on the canopy above me, struggling to break through the dense leaves. The places that the sun did break through caused a light dappling effect across the decaying leaves and pine needles that lay strewn across the ground. Muscles felt like lead in this humidity, the higher I climbed up the mountain didn’t seem to help. Every mile behind me was added to the weight every muscle seemed to have right now.
I could not have been happier when the ground started to level out, it was a gradual thing but after climbing up hill for so long I could feel the gradual change. My heart gave a small leap when I was able to make out the small blue crest that was Esquline Lake just on the horizon. My gate quickened into a lazy trot from the steady walk I had been doing, determined to make it to that cool liquid sooner than later. When I was just yards away I pulled my wolf back into me, cutting off whatever metaphysical connection that bonded us together to pull him back down and let my human side come back out. I came to a halt as the transformation took place, a low grunt escaped past my lips as bones snapped and reformed for a newly shaped body. Once I was standing on two legs instead of four I gave myself a bit of a shake, it always gives me a bit of the willies to hear bones reshaping during a shift.
Bare feet padded softly across the soft sand as I reached closer to the water. I had a pair of swimming trunks stashed here just for when I come here. Sometimes skinny dipping in the lake is fine but sometimes it is just uncalled for. I walked over to wear I had them tossed onto a rock and pulled them on, just a simple pair of black board shorts style. Without wanting to put it off any longer I stepped easily into the cool lake water, reveling in the icy water splashing up my legs as I waded deeper in. I walked out until I could no longer touch the bottom, then I laid back and floated across the surface on my back. I was in total bliss with the crisp water washing up around me, letting it wash away sweat and the heat from my body.
With lazy strokes I slowly moved back toward the shore, not too much in a hurry to get out of the water. Once I was in too shallow of water to just float, I hauled myself up out of the water and onto the beach. Sand clung to my wet feet and legs as I trudged up to a desired location. With a contented sigh I sprawled myself out on the warm sand, arms folded behind my head and legs crossed comfortably at the ankle.
The sun was warm against my damp, well tanned skin but at least it wasn’t unbearably so now that I’ve cooled off in the lake. As I lay comfortably in the sands my thoughts drifted. My eyes closed as my thoughts took over. Thoughts of Alatariel came to the forefront of my mind. I have dealt with plenty of broken werewolves, werewolves who were abused and cast off from the packs, and they all were in rough shape. But Alatariel was probably in the worse shape I’ve seen anyone in. Just me standing there had her nearly folding in on herself, trying to present a small of a threat as she possibly could. I know I’ve had some pretty rash moments where I over reacted, but what kind of person would I be if I attacked a frail woman without just cause? I’m not that cruel. I don’t know how those men were able to hold her captive for so many years and abuse her like that.
Thinking of what Alatariel could have possibly endured in her captivity got my blood boiling. I had to force myself to clear my mind, to now let it get under my skin. There was nothing I could do about it now, the past is the past. There is no sense living in the “what could have been” when there is nothing to be done about it. The best I can do for her now is offer my help and support if she wishes for it, otherwise I am to just step aside and let her try and heal on her own.
I let a soft sigh slip past my lips as I eased my mind. With trouble thoughts gone tension that I wasn’t aware that was there left me; leaving me relaxed as I could be in the sand. The sun was warming my skin, drying the lake water from me, no need for a towel out here. I rolled my shoulders a little bit to get a little more comfortable, comfortable enough that I could probably fall asleep out here.

The weather had been unseasonably warm even for summer weather and Nika couldn't bear the heat indoors with her parents, in her own house, and she sure as hell wasn't going to go anywhere near Kinbok in this weather, with her mood and their attitudes, someone would be dead by the end of the day, and Nika wouldn't care that it was at her hands... and teeth. No, the day may have been hellishly hot but it was beautiful out and Nika felt like taking a nice long hike up the lake. Though the hike would have been much easier in her wolf form, Nika just didn't feel like dealing with the additional fur and the heat it would bring on. She was a much bigger fan of the winter whether, when the peaks of the mountains were capped with white snow, when she could mask herself easily and not stick out against the dark woods.
She was skillful enough to stay out of sight, after all hunting was just one of the many things Nika had taken it upon herself to teach her brother in these woods but it just wasn't a day where Nika felt the desire to actually place any effort to anything. Granted, being so close to the woods and away from her pack was probably only asking for trouble but Nika was willing to keep to herself if the rogues offered her the same courtesy, after all what threat was a woman really going to make, as she was hiking up the shoreline, protected from the sun by the tall evergreens that ran beautifully rampant in these woods.
Taking in a giant breath Nika's eyes fluttered shut at the smells the hike brought her, the crisp clean air, the fresh almost sweet scent of the rapids she was following up stream and of course the calming scent of the pines, it reminded Nika of the winter; of fresh fallen snow and she could only wait to see the snow kissed ground in six months time. That was a ways away though and for now Nika continued her leisurely hike up the mountain trail, following the river bend with the same cool pace since she'd started this hike in the morning.
The hike had been slow going that was for sure, she'd taken a few breaks, even managed a nap underneath a shady oak tree. It was days like this that Nika rarely had and had almost forgotten how much she'd enjoyed. Time alone, away from the pack and their mindless tasks and priorities it had been hard to come by now that they themselves were practically running each other into the ground. It was enough to make Nika want to bash everyone's heads together to gain some common sense, of which only a few seemed to possess, as far as she could tell the only one with more sense then her was Barrett. Then again, he liked to keep his power hidden, but he did have that option. Not like Nika, no she had to fight tooth and nail for her respect, had to prove that she was a woman that kicked ass and didn't just have a nice one.
It wasn't that Nika was a man hater, it was that she really detested the stereotypes even amongst packs. At least hers, at least with her maybe she brought the attention onto herself and as much as she really did enjoy fighting Nika didn't think that she should have to defend herself from constant groping at a simple meal. It was why she lived alone, close to her parents and close enough to Kinbok to get there if she was needed. It was why she took days like this, away from the problems, away from even her family, they expected something of Nika. Almost as though she should have been higher ranking by now because had she wanted it, Nika would have killed whoever need be killed to become Alpha. Nika just didn't think that was where she was needed, at least not now, Not until there was someone who could get a firm holds of the slowly anarchic pack of wolves.
Those rogues may have done the pack a favor in killing off Matthew in the beginning, but it was really starting to look like all they'd really done was screw themselves into sheer madness. Nika hated that those problems had managed to snake their way into her hike and was almost disappointed to see that she'd managed to finally make it to the plateau of the mountain, the massive lake waiting there for her, looking quite welcoming. For a moment Nika stopped, and stared at the crystalline blue waters, the way the water sparkled like a gem with the sun's reflection hitting it. Nika thought to herself that it would be a lovely place to catch some dinner, perhaps some trout or salmon if she was lucky but something fresh just sounded divine.
The closer she got to the lake though, the sooner Nika realized she wasn't actually alone. Letting down the pack she had packed with an extra set of clothes aside from the black bikini top she had on and the pair of khaki cuffed shorts that placed her devilishly (if she did say so herself) long legs on exhibit for all the world to see, Nika tilted her head to the side, as if observing the other individual from the safe distance she was at. She could tell even with her distance that his body was well kept and from the looks of him, Nika could only guess he was one of those kinds of guys that knew it too. As much as she hated to admit it though, those were the kinds of men Nika felt drawn to. Be it the similar inflated sense of self or the fact that she enjoyed a man that knew he could handle himself (even though most times he could) Nika didn't fully know, but she was aware of the fact that there was something definitely wolf. about him and she knew he was not one of her own.
If that was good or bad Nika would have to find out for herself and if he had sensed her, he hadn't let it show you as she dropped her bag on a flat rock before sitting herself on it and drawing her feet up, taking her time to take off the laces and loosen her hiking boots. Should she?... Oh who was Nika kidding, the wolf in her was dying to know if this was a goody or a baddie she'd get to play with today... And both sounded like a wickedly good time. Smirking slightly Nika let her boots drop to the floor and finally called out to the man.
"You must think something of yourself to be so at ease, in such an open environment." Nika's slight accent clung to every word she spoke as she continued to take off her socks and stand from her spot on the rock, her hands going to loosen the belt holding her shorts up snugly to her body, not the she needed the help but she did like to accessorize. "Makes me wonder if I picked a bad day to take a swim." Nothing about Nika suggested she was looking for a fight or even challenging the man, but it was no where near submissive, it left no room to question whether or not she'd be staying. Then again when she was unbuckling her shorts to leave her in the plain black string biking , there wasn't so much of a threat either... Yet, depending on how it was the stranger took to her presence.
"You wouldn't mind would you?" Not that his answer would have made much difference to the Russian beauty.

Words: 869 || Tagged: Nika VOLKOLV || Status: Complete A soft sigh of contentment parted my lips. The sun was warm against me skin. For now I had no worries, I’m sure my brother Truth and I will be having trouble by the bucket full very soon enough with the plan he was cooking up. I was either reckless or just plain stupid enough to go along with it. For hundreds of years, yes I really do mean hundreds, Truth and I have always taken out anyone who has gained too much power and abused it. He always had more tact than me. I was more for the head on kind of approach, except with Matthew because we had to handle that one carefully. Truth is the kind of guy that will do something to someone that will cause them the most pain. Normally I agree and help without question, but this time I think it could come back to bite us in the ass.
He had gotten the bright idea to turn a hunter. And not just any hunter either. Some man who has gone every length to track werewolves all over the world to get them. This guy has been doing this longer than anyone Truth and I have heard of and he has the body count to prove it. Truth calls him “Death” and for good reasons too. If you find yourself in his sights you’re as good as dead. I say kill the bastard and be free of him, but no, Truth wants to make him suffer. I’ll bake truth through anything, but he is getting us in a lot of shit here. This Hunger is already better, faster, and stronger than the weak to moderate of our species and he is still just a human. He is a Hunter for a reason. Now Truth Is going to multiply those skills this Hunter was born with tend fold. We are going to have one very pissed off trained to kill werewolf after us next month. At least we will have a few weeks until he shifts to figure out what we are going to do with him.
I knew for quite some time that there was someone else in the woods right around where I was resting, I had a feeling that they were going to emerge from the cover of the trees right behind me or very close. I wasn’t worried in the least. Either I was going to have some good company to enjoy the sunny, even if it was hot, day with. Or I was going to enjoy laying someone’s ass down for picking a fight when I’m just trying to enjoy a quiet day at the lake. In my mind either option was always a good way to spend my day.
I was quite content to stay right where I was laid out on the beach, even as I began to hear foot falls instead of the general hum of someone’s existence in the distance. There wasn’t even a twitch of muscle when they, no she the foot falls had been far too light to be male, dropped something to the ground. I could hear the soft intake and exhale of her breathing and the soft flutter of her heart beat. Quietly I listened, hearing now the rustle of closed as she moved. Tentatively I opened some inner defenses, listening with more than just my ears, but with all of the abilities that my wolf offered to me. Testing the waters so to speak, before I moved or made any form of contact.
The woman seemed calm enough, from what I could tell she didn’t mean ill will against me. But who am I kidding; we males never know a woman’s intentions. Crafty, manipulative creatures they are.
When she finally spoke first I sat up and half rolled onto my side, moving so I was propped up on my elbow. Green eyes immediately fell on to the woman. I had neither fear nor shame when I took in her slight frame, taking my time in doing so. Upon closer inspection my suspicions were confirmed, my company was a werewolf. A smirk slowly formed across my lips. I gave her a nod and half shrug. ”Well if all my enemies go trudging through the woods like a herd of elephants like you do, I don’t have much to worry about, do I?” A deep rumbling chuckle rose from deep within my chest. I had a quick passing thought that I hoped she could take a joke, if she couldn’t she better not be a slapper or a shin kicker. I’d rather be punched rather than slapped or kicked, they hurt.
My head tilted to the side slightly as she began to pull her shorts off, my gaze was heavy on her, totally unabashed in watching her doing so. My brows rose in amusement when she asked if I minded. “Honey, you can do whatever you want if you keep removing your clothes like that.” I let out a laugh as I settled back down into the sand, just as I had been before she came along. “Besides, do I really have a choice in the matter if you stay or not?”

Nika could feel the rogue's eyes on her and the only reason Nika said rogue was because he seemed far too confident in himself to be so at ease by himself, then again who was the woman to talk? Still, the way he propped himself up and spoke as though he owned this here land it could only lead a girl to think he wasn't the type to be tamed and the thought of that was quite tempting in and of itself. The woman merely let out a short laugh at his comments, had she really thought he meant that she very well might have shown him just how heavy her steps could be but there was something in getting angry that sounded like so much more work than it was worth when there was a deliciously half naked man taking in the show she had very intentionally given him.
Nika wasn't a woman that cared too much for rules, she'd run across many a rogue, especially in the woods and in neutral territories, some were plain anarchists who viewed her as "the man" but most were neutral to her, maybe it was the fact that she didn't exactly go around boasting Kinbok, then again what was there to boast about nowadays? A clan that was running around like headless chickens because no one was there to tell them when to use the bathroom? Or better yet, a clan that was turning into a laughing stock because it spent more time fighting about the next tyrant instead of coming together. No, it definitely wasn't something that Nika was keen on sharing with anybody.
If she was asked though, the woman wouldn't deny her clan, they were her family and push come to shove if things kept up the way they were going, Nika would take charge despite what anyone would think or say to the woman and she would make sure her pack got back on track and respected one another for the family that they were. Nika felt that she owed that much to her pack, they'd put up with much of her and given that she'd seen more of her people go for things far more tame than anything she'd ever said Nika just couldn't turn her back on a pack that had put up with her. She knew she was more useful as an ally as opposed to an enemy but Nika was a woman that was dedicated until death and that was the only way she'd ever leave the Kinbok.
It was Nika's fighting that Matthew seemed to respect more than anything and her beauty had been what had saved her ass from banishment on more than one occasion, and her family that had kept her alive when she'd practically gone rogue on Matthew himself for trying to get her to submit to him. So while Kinbok may have only been a shell and while Vokul seemed to grow from nuisance to threat Nika didn't really find too much of a threat in rogues and in fact found that the right rogue made for a fairly good time. Say what you will about rogues, most knew what a good time meant, no strings attached that sort of thing and that was what Nika appreciated most. Sure if her pack ever found out well they'd probably try to skin her alive for "fraternizing" but Nika knew that most Rogues wouldn't be caught dead near pack members, seeing as unlike her who was equally hateful to all, pack members each seemed to think themselves gods for being part of some greater cause.... That had yet to be determined.
The woman couldn't help but let out another amused laugh thoug when the stranger made his comment about her clothing coming off and she had to admit that there was something about him and his arrogance that was calling to Nika. Maybe it was because it felt like a challenge, to see how far she could push him. Those were Nika's favorite games after all and ones she sadly never got to play much often, seeing as the members in her pack could never keep up (sadly intelligence didn't run deep in Kinbok men... Maybe a few but she'd had her fill of Kinbok for now) and Nika would have rather gnawed off her arm than get near a Vokul pack member, so that only left the woman with humans and Rogues, and humans were.... Well a joke.
Nika pulled her hair out of the messy pony tail it had been in and let the dark hair fall in messy waves down her back as she watched the stranger once again lay on his back, asking if his choice mattered, which no it wouldn't have but still the woman had to smirk when she could see his breathing begin to even out slightly and a devilish glint crossed her eyes. His earlier comments about her trekking had come to mind and the woman couldn't help but to show him just how quiet she could be. Quietly making her way to him, Nika's feet didn't even seem to disturb the sand as she neared the stranger and she really couldn't wait to see how he'd react to her, these were things she never knew but something told her that if he was anything like her (which by now she was willing to be money he was) it would go one of two ways. A. He'd get irrationally angry and get ready to shoot a silver bullter or B. He'd take her come ons as come ons and well... It would move from there.
It was almost in the blink of an eye that Nika was over the stranger, her feet on either side of him, spread wide enough so as not to touch him before she leaned down over him her face almost too close to his and certainly way too friendly than she should have been, but Nika was in a frighteningly friendly mood and the glint in her eye seemed to show that as she finally spoke up garnering his attention.
"Now if you didn't have a choice, what would be the point in being rogue?" And before anything else could be said or done, Nika was once again away from him, only this time she was trudging into the icy cool waters of the lake, her body grateful for the cold treat as she disappeared beneath the waters, that smirk still on her face as she wondered what would be waiting for her once she broke the water's surface...
